We offer canyoning, rock climbing and family adventure packages specifically designed for families with children of all ages. Our family canyoning tours (Vira and Boggera Family) welcome children from around age 6–7 upwards, and we carry child-size equipment including wetsuits, helmets and harnesses. All family tours are led by certified, experienced guides who adapt the pace and difficulty to your group. We also offer family rock climbing at the most beautiful climbing areas in Ticino.
Yes — we welcome children on our family tours and have years of experience guiding kids safely through Ticino's canyons. The Vira family tour has no strict minimum age, the Boggera Family tour is suitable from around age 6–7. All equipment is sized for children, and our guides are trained to work with families. Our company is ISO 21101 certified — the highest safety standard in adventure tourism.
The Vira – Family Canyoning tour is our gentlest introduction, with small slides, small jumps and lots of fun — suitable even for very young children. The Boggera Family Canyoning tour offers a step up in excitement while remaining fully accessible to families with no prior experience. Both tours start from CHF 99–135 per person and include all equipment.
Yes. We offer permanent discounts for children and family groups. From 4 people, a family discount applies on most tours (CHF 10 less per person). Children under 18 also benefit from reduced prices on several tours. Check each individual tour page for exact pricing.
All technical equipment is provided — wetsuit, helmet, harness and canyoning shoes in children's sizes. You just need to bring a swimsuit or bikini/ trunks, a towel, and if your child gets cold easily, a thin layer of synthetic or merino wool underwear to wear under the wetsuit. Leave the flip-flops at home — we provide the shoes.
Absolutely. We offer both activities and can help you plan a multi-day itinerary combining canyoning and rock climbing. Contact us directly and we'll put together the right programme for your family's age range and fitness level.
Canyoning in Ticino is one of the most memorable family experiences in Switzerland — you wade through emerald pools, slide down natural rock chutes and jump into crystal-clear water, all under the guidance of a professional certified guide. It's both safe and genuinely thrilling for adults and kids alike. Our family tours are specifically designed to offer adventure without stress.
Yes. All our guides hold Swiss and international guide licences and are experienced working with families and children. Our company is certified to ISO 21101, the international standard for adventure tourism safety management. We've welcomed hundreds of families with children over the years and adapt every tour to the group in front of us. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Our Level 1 family tours (Vira, Boggera Family) are specifically designed to work across a wide age range — children from around age 6–7 and adults of any age in good general health. The guide adapts every element to the range of abilities in the group, so grandparents and grandchildren can share the same experience.
Yes — this is one of our favourite types of group. Family canyoning works beautifully across generations because everyone is doing something new together and every age group finds their own source of joy in it. We carry equipment for all sizes and adapt the pace to the group.
Yes. We can organise split-group days where adults wanting more challenge do a Level 2 or 3 tour while others do a family tour, both running on the same day. Contact us to discuss the logistics — we can usually accommodate mixed- level groups with a little planning.
We've guided participants in their 60s and beyond on our tours — age is rarely the limiting factor. One of our most memorable guests was a 70-year-old hunter who was so fit on the uphill approach that the guide could barely keep up. He then completed every jump and slide without a moment's hesitation, putting the younger members of the group to shame. General fitness and a spirit of adventure matter far more than age.
Yes — we can organise custom packages for large family reunion groups, combining different tour levels for different age and fitness groups, with the whole family sharing the same canyon day. Contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com with your group size and ages and we'll design a programme.
Yes. Our Level 1–2 tours are designed for exactly this scenario. Nothing is compulsory — every element has a simpler alternative — and the guide sets a pace that works for everyone. Mixed-ability groups are the norm, not the exception.
Our family canyoning tours are among the few outdoor activities in Ticino that genuinely work for three generations on the same day. Children, parents and grandparents have all shared the Boggera Family canyon together and reported it as one of the most memorable family experiences they've had. The natural beauty of the canyon provides a shared backdrop regardless of how each person experiences the adventure.
Yes — we offer optional pick-up from the nearest train station. For large groups with varied transport needs, contact us directly to discuss logistics. We can often help coordinate arrival and departure for groups travelling from different locations. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Absolutely. Safety is our priority, certified by ISO 21101 standards. Our guides are experts in managing groups with children. For your family, we recommend the Boggera Family tour (CHF 135 per person). It's specifically designed as a fun, accessible introduction to canyoning, with smaller jumps and slides that are exciting but not intimidating. We provide all necessary safety equipment, including wetsuits and helmets sized for younger participants. You just need to bring swimwear and a sense of adventure. It's a fantastic way to build confidence and create lasting family memories in a stunning natural environment.
It can be challenging to find one single activity for such a wide age and fitness range. For your group, we would suggest splitting activities. The more adventurous members could tackle the Boggera Family canyoning tour (ages 8+), which is fun and exciting. For those preferring to stay dry or seeking a less strenuous option, a guided mountain bike tour on a scenic valley route or a beginner's rock climbing session on an easily accessible crag would be perfect. We can coordinate the timing so you start and finish together. Contact us to plan the perfect combination for your family day.

Ticino is Switzerland's adventure outdoor hub. The top activities include canyoning (Ticino has some of Europe's best canyons), via ferrata, rock climbing and family adventure tours. Ticino Outdoor offers all of these, with tours ranging from easy family experiences to expert-level multi-hour descents. The combination of Swiss Alps scenery, Mediterranean climate and crystal- clear water makes it unique.
Ticino is one of the best canyoning destinations in Europe, thanks to its glacier-fed rivers, polished granite gorges and exceptional water quality. The season runs from April 1 to November 1. The peak season is June through September when water temperatures are warmest and conditions most consistent. Late spring (May–June) offers higher water levels and more dramatic waterfalls; late summer (August–September) is warmer and more accessible for families.
Via ferrata is a mountain route equipped with fixed steel cables, iron rungs and ladders, allowing people without rock climbing skills to access spectacular mountain terrain safely. Our Via Ferrata Tre Signori tour (CHF 199/person) is guided and suitable for beginners with a reasonable fitness level. All equipment — harness, helmet and via ferrata set — is provided.
Most of our tours are in the Valle Riviera, about 30–40 minutes from Lugano by car. We offer an optional pick-up service from the nearest train station, which is useful if you're arriving by public transport from Lugano or Locarno. When you book, let us know your transport situation and we'll provide the exact meeting point and directions.
Tours start from CHF 99/person for our family discovery tour and CHF 155/ person for beginner canyoning. Intermediate tours range from CHF 159–215/ person, expert tours from CHF 259–339/person, and the Helicanyoning is CHF 390/person. All prices include a certified guide, full equipment (wetsuit, helmet, harness, shoes) and are per person incl. VAT.
We provide all the technical gear. Just bring a swimsuit or trunks, a towel, synthetic or merino underwear if you tend to feel cold, any personal medication, and if you wear glasses a strap or disposable contact lenses. Don't bring valuables — waterproof bags are provided for small essentials.
We do accept last-minute bookings but cannot guarantee availability. We recommend booking at least 2–3 days in advance, and further ahead during peak season (July–August). All bookings are confirmed by email with full details of the meeting point, what to bring and what to expect.
Yes — all our tours combine spectacular natural scenery with genuine adventure. Ticino's canyons are among the most beautiful natural environments in Switzerland — emerald pools, polished white granite, waterfalls up to 50m, carved rock formations and Mediterranean vegetation. Every tour includes a certified guide who brings the natural environment to life. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Our most accessible tour is the School Groups Canyoning (from CHF 89/ person for school groups) or the Vira Family Canyoning from CHF 99/person. For solo travellers, beginner tours like Boggera and Iragna start from CHF 155/ person and are excellent value — they include a certified guide, full equipment and an unforgettable few hours.
Yes. All our tours are open to solo bookings and you'll be joined by other participants in the same scheduled tour. It's a great way to meet other travellers and locals. If you prefer to have the canyon entirely to yourself, we also offer private tours at a premium.
Yes. On several tours, under-18s and students receive a reduced price. For example, Iragna Canyoning is CHF 145/person for students under 18 (vs CHF 155 adult), and Iragna Plus is CHF 195 for under-18s vs CHF 215 adult. Check each tour page for the applicable student rate.
The CHF 99 price on the Vira tour is a family/group rate — the Vira tour requires a minimum of 3 participants. It is not available as a solo booking at that price. If you're travelling solo and want to join a scheduled group, check availability on our other beginner tours such as Boggera (from CHF 155/person) which have no minimum group size.
Absolutely. Even the beginner tours (CHF 155/person) include 3–4 hours of guided adventure in some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Switzerland, with all equipment provided. It's exceptional value compared to most Swiss activities. Many solo travellers say it's the highlight of their time in Switzerland.
Canyoning in the Valle Riviera is about 30–40 minutes from Lugano and offers some of Switzerland's best outdoor adventure. Boggera or Iragna Canyoning (from CHF 155/person) are our most popular beginner tours and represent outstanding value for the experience. Add a train to Biasca and our pick-up service and you don't even need a car.
Yes — our group tours put you together with other adventurers from all over the world. Canyoning is inherently social and groups typically bond quickly over shared jumps and abseils. It's one of the most sociable outdoor activities you can do.
No experience whatsoever is needed for Level 1 (Family) and Level 2 (Beginner) tours. Your guide teaches you everything on the spot — how to abseil, how to jump safely, how to navigate the water. You just need basic swimming ability (at least 20m unaided) and a spirit of adventure.
Bellinzona is well connected by train to Biasca (Valle Riviera), which is close to the Boggera area. For the Boggera canyon, Boggera Helicanyoning and Lodrino tours there is a public bus stop just 3 minutes' walk from our base — no pick-up needed. Check local bus connections from Biasca train station. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Absolutely — Ticino is Switzerland's most underrated stop for adventure. While most interrailers rush between Zurich, Bern and Geneva, Ticino offers a completely different side of Switzerland — Mediterranean climate, Italian culture, extraordinary canyons and some of Europe's best outdoor activities. A day or two in Ticino for canyoning is one of the best decisions you can make on a Swiss rail trip.
Our Vira Family Canyoning starts from CHF 99/person and is a genuine, guide-led canyoning experience. Beginner tours start from CHF 155/person. Given that this includes a certified guide, full equipment rental and 3–4 hours of activity in one of Europe's most beautiful natural environments, it represents exceptional value by any Swiss standard.
We do accept same-day bookings subject to availability, but we cannot guarantee a spot. We strongly recommend booking at least 2–3 days in advance. If you're travelling spontaneously, contact us via WhatsApp (+41 76 280 12 22) and we'll do our best to fit you in.
Yes. We have storage at our base in Osogna where you can leave bags safely in our office. If we're meeting at a different location, your guide can store luggage in their car or van for the duration of the tour. Just let us know when booking if you'll need this.
Take the train from Lugano to Biasca (approximately 30 minutes, frequent departures on the SBB Gotthard line). From there: - Boggera, Lodrino and Nala tours: there is a public bus stop just 3 minutes from our base in Osogna — no pick-up needed. - Iragna and Malvaglia tours: we offer pick-up from Biasca train station. - Valle Maggia / Nala tours: we offer pick-up from Locarno. - Corippo and Vira tours: there is a bus stop right next to the meeting point. Let us know your transport situation when booking and we'll make sure you can get there without a car.
Canyoning. Whether you choose Boggera for a beginner experience or push to Pontirone if you're fit and adventurous, a day of guided canyoning in Ticino is an experience you'll still be talking about years later. The combination of natural beauty, physical challenge, shared adrenaline and Ticino's unique atmosphere is genuinely unlike anywhere else in Europe.
Yes — all our tours are available in English. Our guides are multilingual and experienced with international visitors. English is the default language for mixed international groups.
Absolutely. After your tour you'll already be in some of the best swimming territory in Switzerland. Our favourite spots near the canyon areas: the Nala exit in Osogna, the Iragna exit pools in Iragna village, the Moleno exit, multiple spots along the Maggia river, and Ponte Brolla — one of the most popular and beautiful swimming areas in the whole of Ticino. Ask your guide on the day for the best current spot depending on water levels. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ja.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Not at all. All our guides are fluent in English, and we welcome international guests daily. Communicating with us and participating in our tours will be straightforward. Ticino is easily accessible from major hubs. From Zurich, it's a scenic train journey of about two hours through the Alps. From Milan, it's even closer, often just over an hour by train. We provide detailed meeting point instructions upon booking, most of which are easily reachable by public transport. We're here to help make your Swiss adventure holiday seamless and unforgettable. Our season runs from April to November.
We know what it's like to travel on a student budget. Our most accessible adventure is the Canyoning Vira tour for CHF 99. It's our shortest tour, but it delivers a genuine and exciting canyoning experience in a beautiful, sunny gorge. You'll get to experience rappelling, sliding, and jumping into crystal-clear pools. It’s a fantastic introduction to the sport and offers incredible value, packing a lot of fun into a half-day trip without breaking the bank. All equipment is included, so there are no hidden costs. It’s the perfect way to experience the best of Ticino's nature on a budget.
33 Q&A
The Lodrino Integrale is our most demanding tour — a full-day 6–7 hour descent through one of Europe's most spectacular canyons, with 50m abseils in full waterfall flow, huge jumps and long technical sections. For those wanting the ultimate, the Boggera Helicanyoning adds a helicopter flight from Lodrino airport to reach the upper section. Both require previous canyoning experience.
Yes. Even our beginner tours include jumps up to 10m and abseils up to 20m. The intermediate tours (Pontirone, Iragna Plus, Nala) feature jumps up to 14– 15m and abseils up to 45–50m. The expert Lodrino canyon has abseils up to 50m in the full flow of the water and jumps from serious heights. All jumps have a non-jumping option if you prefer to lower yourself.
Helicanyoning combines a scenic helicopter flight with a full-day expert canyoning descent. We take off from Lodrino airport, fly to Sasso Bianco at 1100m and then descend the legendary full Boggera canyon — 6–7 hours of continuous action including slides up to 20m, abseils in cave-like potholes and jumps. From CHF 390/person. Previous canyoning experience is required. It is one of the most famous helicanyoning experiences in the world.
Lodrino requires good overall fitness — you'll be active for 4–5 hours (Inferiore) or 6–7 hours (Integrale) in cold water. You must be a strong swimmer and have previous canyoning experience. It's not suitable for first-timers. If you've done intermediate tours with us or equivalent elsewhere, contact us to assess your readiness.
Ticino is widely considered one of the top canyoning destinations in Europe. The combination of Swiss Alps geology, abundant snowmelt water, emerald- green pools and technically varied canyons is hard to match. The Lodrino canyon in particular is considered a world-class route by the international canyoning community. The water quality and scenery — polished white granite, deep gorges, spectacular waterfalls — is exceptional.
Yes. Our Double the Fun package combines two canyons in one day — a morning tour and an afternoon tour — with a lunch break in between. You can combine Boggera, Iragna or Nala in the morning with Pontirone in the afternoon. The package comes with at least 20% discount compared to booking separately. It's a long day (6–8 hours of activity total) so a reasonable fitness level is expected.
Yes. Our Valle Riviera canyons (Iragna, Iragna Plus, Lodrino) are 30–40 minutes from Lugano and range from beginner to expert level. For something intermediate, Iragna Plus (CHF 215/person) offers technical features beyond the standard beginner experience. Pontirone (near Biasca, ~45 minutes) is a beautiful intermediate tour with a 45m waterfall abseil.
Our Double the Fun package (two canyons in one day) is perfect for a weekend. You can also combine canyoning on day one with rock climbing or via ferrata on day two. For the ultimate weekend, our Adrenaline Hunter package (CHF 597/person) covers multiple activities. Contact us and we'll tailor a programme to your level and available time. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Lodrino Integrale is our most technically demanding route — a full 6–7 hour descent with 50m abseils in full waterfall flow, requiring fast and safe active abseiling skills. The Boggera Helicanyoning accesses the upper Boggera canyon via helicopter and offers a 6–7 hour continuous technical descent. Both require documented prior canyoning experience.
The maximum abseil in Lodrino is 50m, performed in the full flow of the water. It is one of the most impressive abseils in Swiss canyoning.
Lodrino Integrale is available July through October only. The water level needs to be in a specific range — high enough for the experience to be spectacular but not so high as to be dangerous. We monitor conditions daily and will advise on the best window when you contact us to book.
Yes. We offer multi-day canyoning courses for those wanting to develop skills beyond guided tours — covering rope techniques, self-rescue, reading water and route-finding. See ticinooutdoor.com/canyoning-courses/ for details. We offer 3,5,7 days packages or a flexible schedule based on the availability and the skill level of the participants.
We guide rock climbing at a range of crags across Ticino, predominantly around Ascona, Ponte Brolla, Arcegno and near Bellinzona. These are among the finest climbing areas in the canton — great rock quality, varied routes and spectacular settings. Contact us to discuss which area suits your level and what's in best condition on your planned date.
Yes — Nala is a significant step up from Boggera. It's an intermediate canyon in the Valle Maggia with waterfalls up to 50m, optional 14m jumps and a 15m near-vertical slide. It's less about pure adrenaline and more about sustained commitment and technical engagement over 3–4 hours. A great next step for someone comfortable with Boggera.
Pontirone and Malvaglia can often be visited almost year-round for those comfortable with cold water, as their water flow is partly regulated by a dam. Our standard season runs April 1 to November 1, with flexible departure times in spring and autumn. Contact us for off-season availability.
Yes, we offer standalone equipment rental — full canyoning set including wetsuit, helmet, harness and shoes, as well as via ferrata sets. See ticinooutdoor.com/canyoning-rental/ and ticinooutdoor.com/via-ferrata- equipment-rental/ for details. We do ask that you get in touch before renting independently so we can advise on current water conditions, the suitability of your planned location and any safety considerations. We'd rather you have a great day than a dangerous one.
Via Ferrata Tre Signori is beginner-friendly with some intermediate features — it has vertical wall sections, a rope bridge and an exposed ridge, but also has escape routes at key points. The day is approximately 5–6 hours total including a cable car ride, a 40-minute approach hike and 2–3 hours on the ferrata. It sits comfortably between easy and intermediate in difficulty — rewarding for beginners without being overwhelming, and engaging enough for those with some outdoor experience. The views over the Bellinzona valley and Monte Tamaro are exceptional. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Beginner tours (Level 1–2) are comparable to a moderate hike in terms of exertion — steady movement over uneven terrain with some scrambling and swimming. Intermediate tours (Level 3) are more demanding — expect 3–5 hours of sustained physical activity including swimming against light current and technical movement. Expert tours (Level 4) are comparable to a demanding alpine day: 6–7 hours of continuous, high-intensity activity requiring good fitness and strength.
The Lodrino Integrale is our most physically demanding tour — 6–7 hours in cold, high-volume water with sustained abseiling, swimming and scrambling. The Boggera Helicanyoning is similarly demanding. Both require previous canyoning experience and strong general fitness.
The Lodrino Integrale is 6–7 hours of active time in the canyon, making it a full day from start to finish. Add travel, preparation and debrief and you're looking at a 9–10 hour day. It is a serious physical undertaking and one of the most complete adventure days available in Switzerland.
Yes. We offer both activities and can design a multi-day itinerary — canyoning one day and rock climbing the next. Ticino has excellent climbing areas and we guide at the best crags. Contact us to plan a custom multi- activity trip.
Canyoning engages the whole body — legs for scrambling and jumping, arms and core for abseiling, swimming muscles for water sections and grip strength throughout. Expert tours are genuinely tiring in the same way a multi-hour swim-run event would be. Even beginner tours provide a thorough full-body workout in a much more enjoyable environment than a gym.
Yes. We can design multi-day programmes combining canyoning, rock climbing and via ferrata. Our Adrenaline Hunter package (CHF 597/person) covers multiple activities. For a fully custom multi-day programme, contact us directly and we'll build an itinerary around your fitness level, available days and activity preferences.
For Level 3–4 tours, you must be a confident swimmer comfortable in moving water. For Lodrino specifically, you must be a strong swimmer — sections involve sustained swimming in fast-moving water. If in doubt, complete a Level 2 tour with us first so we can assess your water confidence before progressing.
Our Lodrino Integrale (6–7 hours), Boggera Helicanyoning (6–7 hours) and Adrenaline Hunter package (CHF 597, multiple activities) are our most demanding offerings. For those wanting to build skills progressively, our canyoning courses offer technical progression beyond what a guided tour provides. For our returning customers we offer plenty of high-level technical tours (not on the website), organise multi-day canyoning holidays in and out of Ticino and even canyon marathons if requested. The “Caroline package” - named after one of our most loyal customer - includes 7 full-day canyons in a week…only for the fittest! ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Several factors combine: the geology (polished white granite, deep glacially carved gorges), the water quality and colour (crystal-clear, turquoise-green, fed by Alpine snowmelt), the density of high-quality routes within a small area, the Mediterranean climate and long season (April–November), and the accessibility from major European cities. The Lodrino canyon in particular is considered a benchmark route by the international canyoning community.
Ticino offers a different character — warmer, more Mediterranean, with longer canyons and more varied technical features than the typical Interlaken commercial scene. The Ticino canyons tend to be longer, the water warmer later in the season, and the scenery more dramatic in terms of natural carving and colour. The Valais has excellent routes but Ticino's concentration of quality canyons within a compact area is unmatched in Switzerland.
Canyoning developed as a distinct sport in Europe from the 1980s and 1990s, drawing on traditions of alpinism and river exploration. Switzerland became an early hub, partly due to tragic incidents in the late 1990s that led to rigorous safety regulation and certification standards — from which the ISO 21101 framework partly derives. Ticino's canyons were explored and developed from the 1990s onwards, with the Lodrino canyon established as a classic route by the early 2000s.
The BIG 5. Lodrino, Boggera, Iragna, Nala and Pontirone. All these are huge and long canyons with more sections and relatively easy access. Lodrino is consistently cited as a world-class route — it appears in international canyoning guides and is a destination in its own right for visiting canyoneers. Pontirone is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful canyons in Europe for its scenery and technical character. Nala is valued for its spectacular waterfall sequence. Boggera is the jumpers and sliders paradise.
Switzerland follows ISO 21101 (Adventure Tourism — Safety Management Systems) as the primary standard, aligned with the broader ESTO/AALA framework. Operators working with school groups and corporate clients are typically required to hold this certification. The Swiss alpine club (SAC) and Swiss Adventure Guides Association also play a role in guide certification and training standards.

For experienced canyoners seeking a full-day, high-adrenaline adventure, our Lodrino Integrale tour (CHF 339) is the ultimate challenge. This is one of Europe's premier canyoning experiences, known for its technical difficulty, long rappels of up to 45 metres, and powerful water flow. It requires excellent physical fitness and confidence with heights. The tour is long, committing, and intensely rewarding. If you want to push your limits even further, consider the Boggera Helicanyoning trip (CHF 390), which adds a spectacular helicopter approach to an already demanding descent. This is serious adventure for serious participants.
The Lodrino Integrale (CHF 339) is as much an endurance event as it is a technical one. We require participants to have an excellent level of cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. You should be comfortable with sustained physical exertion for 6-8 hours. The tour involves a steep 90-minute uphill hike to the start, followed by hours in the canyon swimming in cold water, scrambling over rocks, and managing long rappels up to 45m. Strong swimming skills and a complete lack of fear of heights or enclosed spaces are mandatory. It’s a true test of all-round physical and mental resilience.

Canyoning is one of the most effective team building activities available — it demands communication, mutual support and trust in a completely natural setting, away from screens and office dynamics. Teams consistently report stronger cohesion and new perspectives on colleagues after a day in the canyon. We organise corporate events for groups of all sizes across Ticino.
Yes. We specifically design our corporate programmes to accommodate mixed fitness levels. We offer canyoning, rock climbing and via ferrata as team building activities. We can also help combine the activity with a lunch or dinner at a traditional Ticino grotto restaurant.
Yes — Ticino Outdoor is ISO 21101 certified, the international standard for adventure tourism safety management systems, certified by SGS. This is the certification companies and HR departments specifically look for when booking outdoor activities. We can provide all necessary documentation for your company's risk assessment process.
ISO 21101 is the gold standard for adventure tourism safety in Switzerland. It means the provider's safety management systems, guide qualifications, equipment standards and emergency procedures have been independently audited and certified by an accredited body. Ticino Outdoor holds this certification, issued by SGS.
Contact us directly at info@ticinooutdoor.com or +41 76 280 12 22. Tell us your group size, preferred date(s), general fitness level and any specific requirements. We'll suggest the right combination of activities, provide a quote and handle all logistics including optional pick-up service.
Yes. We know the best local grotti (traditional Ticino restaurants) near each of our canyon areas and are happy to recommend them. If you'd like us to coordinate the reservation as part of your group day, just ask when booking — we can arrange it for you. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Yes. We have a dedicated school groups canyoning tour (from CHF 89/ person) specifically designed for young participants. It's an easy, fun introduction to canyoning with an emphasis on safety and guided learning. We regularly work with school groups and youth organisations and have experience managing larger groups of teenagers.
For our school group canyoning tour, the minimum age is around 8–10 years (Level 1–2 tours). For more advanced tours, minimum ages vary: Pontirone requires at least 12 years with prior experience, Nala requires 14+. Contact us with your group's ages and we'll recommend the right tour.
Ticino Outdoor is ISO 21101 certified — the international standard for safety management systems in adventure tourism, audited and certified by SGS. This is the certification specifically required by most Swiss school authorities and insurers for adventure activity providers. We can provide full documentation of our certification.
Our school group tour starts from CHF 89/person. For groups of 8+ (Monday–Friday), group rates apply. For larger classes or multiple groups, contact us directly for a tailored quote including any logistics support needed.
Yes. We regularly run events for groups of 30 and above, splitting into smaller guided groups running simultaneously. Each group has its own certified guide. Contact us with your group size, date and age range for a full proposal.
We offer canyoning, rock climbing and via ferrata suitable for teenagers. Canyoning is the most popular — it's exciting, active and appeals strongly to young people. For teenagers with some experience, our Level 3 tours (Pontirone, Iragna Plus) offer a genuine technical challenge.
Most Swiss school trip insurance policies cover outdoor adventure activities with ISO-certified providers. We recommend confirming with your specific insurer, and we can provide all certification documentation needed. Our ISO 21101 certificate is available for download on our safety page.
A swimsuit or shorts, a towel, synthetic or merino sports underwear (optional, for warmth), and any personal medication. All technical equipment — wetsuit, helmet, harness, canyoning shoes — is provided. Students should leave valuables at school or in the bus. We provide a small waterproof bag for essentials.
Yes. All our guides hold Swiss and international guide licences and have extensive experience with youth groups, school classes and scout groups. We adapt communication, pace and challenge level to the age group. Many of them work part-time at the federal sports centre for youth in Tenero and hold a G+S certificate as well ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Yes — we welcome charity and sponsored event groups and have experience working with fundraising teams. Contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com to discuss your group size, preferred challenge level and date. We can design a programme that makes a compelling fundraising story while ensuring a safe, memorable experience.
The Lodrino Integrale (6–7 hours, CHF 339/person) or Boggera Helicanyoning (CHF 390/person) make the most compelling sponsored challenge stories — they're genuinely demanding, world-class experiences that participants can describe vividly to their donors. For groups with mixed fitness levels, the Double the Fun package offers a full day at a lower technical threshold.
Yes — we love to support a good cause. Charity and fundraising groups get our highest possible group rate discount. Get in touch directly at info@ticinooutdoor.com or akos@ticinooutdoor.com to tell us about your cause and we'll put together the best package we can.
Yes. We regularly run private days for groups of 15–20 and larger. With multiple certified guides we can keep everyone moving through the canyon safely and at a good pace. Contact us with your group size and target date for a tailored quote.
The Lodrino canyon — with its 50m abseils in full waterfall flow and 6–7 hours of continuous action — makes one of the most compelling outdoor challenge stories available in Switzerland. The Helicanyoning adds a helicopter dimension that donors find immediately striking. Both have clear narrative hooks: the scale, the physicality, the natural power of the water.
Yes — we are happy to provide a certificate of completion for our more challenging tours, particularly Lodrino Canyoning, Lodrino Integrale and Boggera Helicanyoning. Just let us know when booking that you'd like one — it makes a great addition to a fundraising story or personal milestone. Contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com.
Key facts: Lodrino is rated one of Europe's top canyoning experiences; the main abseil is 50m in full waterfall flow; the full-day tour is 6–7 hours of continuous physical activity in Alpine conditions; the canyon is accessible only by foot and helicopter (for the Helicanyoning). Add your own before/after photos and you have everything a sponsor page needs. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Yes, we regularly manage stag and hen parties and can certainly accommodate a group of 12. For a great mix of fun and challenge, we suggest canyoning in Boggera or a via ferrata trip. We can tailor the day to your group's energy levels. Afterwards, we can help arrange a meal at a local 'grotto' for traditional Ticino food and wine to celebrate. To ensure we can secure a booking for your group size and desired date, please contact us directly via email at akos@ticinooutdoor.com or WhatsApp us on +41 76 280 12 22 to discuss the details and create a memorable event.
Our corporate programmes are designed to move teams out of their comfort zones and into an environment that demands trust, clear communication, and mutual support. Activities like canyoning or rafting are not just physical; they are exercises in collaborative problem-solving. Participants must rely on each other and their guide to navigate the natural challenges. We can customise the day to focus on specific team objectives, concluding with a debrief to connect the experience back to the workplace. Our ISO 21101 certification reflects our commitment to professional risk management, ensuring a safe setting for your team to grow. Contact akos@ticinooutdoor.com to design your event.
Yes, we would be delighted to help you organise a fundraising challenge. Hosting a sponsored canyoning or via ferrata event is a fantastic way to motivate your supporters. We can create a bespoke event for your group, ensuring a safe, memorable, and challenging experience suitable for various fitness levels. We do offer preferential rates for registered charities. Our professional organisation and ISO 21101 safety certification can also provide reassurance to your participants and stakeholders. Please contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com to discuss your event idea, participant numbers, and objectives, so we can build the perfect package for your cause.
Of course. We operate at the highest professional standard and are fully transparent about our safety management systems. As an ISO 21101 certified company, we have comprehensive and documented risk assessments for all our activities, which we are happy to share with your organisation. We hold extensive public liability insurance that meets and exceeds Swiss legal requirements. Providing this documentation to our charity partners is standard procedure. This ensures your trustees have complete confidence that you are partnering with a responsible and professional operator, safeguarding both your participants and your charity's reputation.
18 Q&A
Many of our guests have a degree of height anxiety and have completed beginner tours without difficulty. On Level 1–2 tours the abseil heights are low (max 20m) and every abseil has a guided safety belay option. Nothing is compulsory — the guide will always find an alternative route for anyone who prefers not to jump or abseil. We recommend contacting us to discuss your specific concerns before booking.
Canyoning requires the ability to walk over uneven terrain, scramble over rocks and swim. It is not accessible for people with significant mobility limitations. If you have a specific condition, please contact us directly — we'll give you an honest assessment of whether any of our tours might work for you.
Our equipment accommodates a wide range of body types and sizes, from children from 20kg upwards through to adults up to approximately 120–130kg. If you have any concerns about fit or sizing, please contact us before booking and we'll confirm what's available for your group.
Participants are responsible for ensuring their own medical fitness before booking. We require all participants to be in good general health. If you have a heart condition, asthma or other medical condition, please consult your doctor before booking and inform your guide on the day. We ask that you bring any relevant medication (inhaler, etc.) and inform the guide at the start of the tour.
Conditions that typically prevent participation include serious heart conditions, epilepsy, severe asthma, pregnancy, and any condition affecting balance, strength or consciousness. If in doubt, consult your doctor and contact us before booking — we'd rather have the conversation beforehand than on the day.
We do not recommend canyoning during pregnancy due to the risk of falls, cold water and physical exertion. Non-participants are not able to accompany the group into the canyon for safety reasons. We're sorry we cannot accommodate this — contact us to discuss the best way for a group with a pregnant member to still enjoy a day in Ticino.
Yes — adapting to mixed-fitness groups is one of our core strengths. We work with small groups precisely to ensure every participant is supported at their own level. The guide sets a pace that works for everyone and always has non-compulsory alternatives for each technical element.
Our guides are trained to handle this situation. On many canyons there are exit points along the route. The guide will find the safest option for the person to exit, and in some cases can accompany them out while the rest of the group continues. We will always prioritise the safety and comfort of every participant. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Canyoning carries inherent risks as an outdoor activity, primarily from water, heights and cold. With a certified, experienced guide, proper equipment and adherence to safety protocols, these risks are managed to a very low level. The main hazards — flash floods, hypothermia and falls — are addressed through constant monitoring of water levels, weather forecasts and use of ISO-certified equipment and procedures. We have a comprehensive safety management system certified to ISO 21101.
ISO 21101 is the international standard for safety management systems in adventure tourism. It means the company's guides, equipment, emergency procedures and risk assessment processes have been independently audited and certified by an accredited body (in our case, SGS). It is the certification specifically required by Swiss schools, corporates and insurers.
We have guided more than 5,000 clients without a serious incident. This record reflects our ISO 21101 certified safety management system, the daily risk assessment our guides carry out before every tour, and our strict policy of cancelling tours whenever conditions are not safe. You can read more about our approach at ticinooutdoor.com/safety-first/
ISO 21101 is the international standard for safety management systems in adventure tourism, published by the International Organization for Standardization. It requires a provider to have documented risk assessment processes, qualified staff, certified equipment, emergency procedures and regular independent audits. Ticino Outdoor holds this certification, issued by SGS Société Générale de Surveillance SA — one of the world's leading testing and certification companies.
We monitor weather and water levels daily. If conditions are unsafe, we cancel the tour proactively and offer an alternative date or a voucher. If weather changes unexpectedly during a tour, our guides are trained to assess conditions continuously and exit the canyon safely if needed. Safety always takes priority over completing the tour.
We strongly recommend having valid accident and health insurance that covers canyoning and includes rescue costs. Switzerland does not have reciprocal EU health cover for all nationalities, and mountain rescue can be expensive. If you have travel insurance, verify that adventure activities are covered under your policy. We are not responsible for insurance coverage — this is the participant's responsibility.
Our full cancellation and refund terms are detailed at ticinooutdoor.com/ terms-and-conditions/. We recommend reading these before booking. If we cancel a tour due to safety conditions (weather, water level), we will always offer an alternative date or a voucher.
We maintain strict guide-to-participant ratios tailored to the difficulty of each tour. For beginner tours (Level 1–2) the ratio is a maximum of 8 participants per guide. For intermediate and expert tours (Level 3–4) the ratio is a maximum of 6 participants per guide. This ensures every participant gets proper attention and the group can move safely through technical sections.
Our guides are trained in first aid and water rescue. Every guide carries a first aid kit and communication equipment. We have an emergency action plan for every canyon we operate in, including knowledge of the fastest exit routes and helicopter landing zones. All our guides are personal REGA members (Swiss Air Rescue) and carry REGA-specific radios and the REGA app — we recommend all our participants join REGA too, and we actively encourage this before every tour. Our operations are fully covered by our ISO 21101 certified safety management system. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Yes, in most cases, having a well-managed chronic condition like diabetes or asthma does not prevent you from participating. The most important thing is to inform us in full at the time of booking. This is confidential and crucial for your safety. Our guides need to be aware of your condition, any medication you carry (e.g., insulin, inhaler), and what to do in an emergency. We can advise on the most suitable tour and will ensure you have the opportunity to manage your condition during the trip. Your safety is paramount, and open communication allows us to prepare accordingly.

Canyoning in the Valle Riviera is one of the best day trips from Lugano — 30– 40 minutes by car, a few hours of extraordinary activity and you're back for dinner. Boggera and Iragna are perfect for a Saturday morning. For a full day, try the Double the Fun package (two canyons in one day) or combine canyoning with via ferrata.
Absolutely — many Swiss residents have never explored their own canyons, and the Ticino canyoning experience is genuinely world-class. Our most regular clients include people based in Zurich, Basel and Bern who make the trip annually. Each canyon is different and the experience grows with your level.
Canyoning is the single most memorable activity you can offer visiting friends — it's impossible to replicate at home, the scenery is spectacular and it's accessible to almost any fitness level. For a first visit, Boggera Canyoning is the ideal recommendation. For a more adventurous group, Pontirone or the Double the Fun package.
Boggera or Iragna Canyoning — both are 30–40 minutes from Lugano, typically 3–4 hours of activity, and are perfectly designed for a half-day adventure. Usual departure times are 9:00 AM, leaving you free for lunch and the afternoon.
Yes — we run tours daily from April 1 to November 1, including weekdays. Weekday bookings often benefit from group discounts (8+ people Mon–Fri). Outside the main season, flexible departure times are available; contact us for off-season availability.
All our tours are available in English and German, and we can also guide in Italian and French. Our guides are multilingual and experienced with international visitors. Language is never a barrier.
By car, the Boggera area in the Valle Riviera is approximately 30–40 minutes from Lugano via the A2 motorway. By train, Biasca is about 30 minutes from Lugano on the SBB Gotthard line. From Biasca, there is a public bus to Osogna with a stop just 3 minutes from our base — no pick-up needed for Boggera, Lodrino or Helicanyoning tours. For Iragna and Malvaglia we offer pick-up from Biasca station, and for Valle Maggia from Locarno.
The Lodrino canyon is arguably the most spectacular canyoning experience in Switzerland and one of the best in Europe — yet it remains relatively unknown outside the canyoning community. Nala in the Valle Maggia is also exceptional and undervisited. For a completely different experience, the Via Ferrata Tre Signori offers Alpine ridge walking with spectacular views that few Ticino residents ever see.
Yes — we have a dedicated programme for returning guests that isn't advertised on the website. Benefits include 10–20% discounts on bookings, access to special tours not on the public menu, private tours without the usual surcharge, flexible start times, and enhanced photo and video service. If you've been with us before, get in touch directly at info@ticinooutdoor.com or via WhatsApp and we'll look after you. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

For corporate or very large groups, please contact us as early as possible to ensure availability and guide allocation. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A day trip from Milan is very popular and straightforward. We recommend either the Canyoning Vira tour (CHF 99) or the Boggera Family tour (CHF 135). Both are half-day experiences, typically lasting 3-4 hours, which gives you plenty of time to drive here, enjoy the adventure, and return to Italy the same day without being rushed. The meeting points are easily accessible from the motorway. The Vira tour is shorter and a perfect taster, while Boggera offers a more complete canyoning experience. Booking is essential. We will provide precise directions and timings to make your cross-border adventure simple.

Sharing a canyoning or via ferrata experience as a couple creates some of the most powerful memories a trip can produce — you support each other, push each other's limits and experience extraordinary natural beauty together. Our private tour option means you can have the canyon entirely to yourselves with a dedicated guide. The Pontirone canyon in particular is famous for its sheer beauty.
Yes. We always adapt the experience to the group, and our Level 1–2 tours are accessible to virtually any healthy adult regardless of fitness. You progress through the canyon together, at your own pace, with the guide adjusting to both of you. Nobody is pushed beyond their comfort zone.
Yes. We offer private tours for couples — just the two of you and a dedicated guide. It's the most personal and memorable way to experience the canyon. Contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com or via WhatsApp to arrange a private booking and discuss which tour suits your fitness levels and preferences.
The Pontirone canyon is widely regarded as the most beautiful canyon in Ticino — its huge boulders, 45m waterfall, deeply carved rock formations and crystal-clear water are breathtaking. The Nala canyon in Valle Maggia is also stunning, passing through waterfalls up to 50m. For via ferrata, Tre Signori offers a rope bridge, exposed ridge walking and sweeping panoramas over the Bellinzona valley and Monte Tamaro — one of the finest views in the canton.
Yes — our Valle Riviera canyoning tours are 30–40 minutes from Lugano and Lake Maggiore. It's easy to combine a morning of canyoning with an afternoon on the lake or a visit to Lugano or Locarno. We can also suggest tours closer to the Locarno/Ascona area on request.
A weekend in Ticino combining canyoning and via ferrata is a perfect active break. Canyoning on day one (Pontirone or Boggera are ideal for couples), via ferrata or rock climbing on day two. Add evenings at a traditional grotto restaurant and you have an unforgettable Swiss weekend. Contact us to plan the full itinerary.
Yes. Our VIP/private canyoning package offers an exclusive, fully personalised experience — just you, your group and a dedicated guide. Yes. Gift cards for our tours are available directly through the tour pages on our website — look for the "Gift card" button alongside the booking button. It's an experience the recipient chooses and books themselves, at a time that suits them. Perfect when you want to give something truly memorable rather than another object.
A canyoning tour is one of the most exciting and memorable gifts you can give a teenager — far more impactful than any physical gift. Our Boggera Beginner tour (from CHF 155) or the Double the Fun package are particularly popular for teens and young adults. We have discounted prices for under-18s on several tours.
Yes. Gift cards can be purchased on individual tour pages and are redeemable against the full tour price. The recipient books directly at a time that suits them within the season.
Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase — plenty of time to plan the perfect adventure.
A canyoning tour voucher in Ticino — especially the Helicanyoning (CHF 390) or Lodrino Integrale (CHF 339) for experienced adventurers, or Boggera/ Pontirone for first-timers. These are bucket-list experiences that money can't replicate, and the recipient gets to choose their own date. Far more memorable than any physical gift.
Gift vouchers can be redeemed against any tour of equivalent or greater value — they are not restricted to a specific tour. The recipient books the tour of their choice directly through our website.
It's one of the best possible gifts for that reason — the novelty and the shared memory of a first canyoning experience is something people treasure for years. Our beginner tours (Boggera, Iragna) are specifically designed for first-timers and require no prior experience. Your gift could genuinely change how they think about outdoor adventure.
A canyoning tour is an exceptional Father's Day gift — active, adventurous and genuinely memorable. Options range from the family-friendly Boggera Family tour (ideal for fathers with kids, CHF 135/person) to the adrenaline- packed Double the Fun package or Lodrino Canyoning for dads who want a real challenge. Gift cards can be purchased on our website. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Absolutely. We regularly guide first-timers in their 50s and beyond, and age is rarely a limiting factor on our Level 1–2 tours. Good general health and basic swimming ability are all you need. Many participants in this age group say it's one of the most exhilarating experiences they've ever had, precisely because it was new and unexpected.
The Boggera Helicanyoning is our most extraordinary single-day experience — a helicopter flight into the Alps followed by a full-day descent of one of Europe's most famous canyons. It is genuinely unlike anything else available in Switzerland. For a more accessible bucket-list moment, the Pontirone canyon — with its 45m waterfall abseil and spectacular beauty — is the experience most guests say they think about most.
For a special birthday, anniversary or milestone, the Boggera Helicanyoning (CHF 390/person) is exceptional value — a helicopter flight, 6–7 hours in an iconic canyon and a day you'll remember for life. It's the kind of experience that genuinely justifies the cost, and most guests who do it describe it as the best day of their year.
Most first-timers are nervous beforehand and exhilarated throughout. The moment you take your first jump or complete your first abseil, something shifts — there's a genuine physical thrill combined with a quiet pride in having done something you weren't sure you could. By the end of the tour most people are asking when they can come back. Physically, you'll be pleasantly tired and thoroughly soaked.
Yes. Lodrino is consistently cited by the international canyoning community as one of the premier canyon routes in Europe, comparable in quality to the best routes in the Pyrenees or Slovenia. The combination of scale, water volume, technical challenge and sheer natural beauty makes it genuinely world- class.
Canyoning in Ticino. It is Switzerland's most undervalued outdoor experience — most Swiss themselves have never done it, yet it sits alongside skiing and hiking as one of the truly exceptional things the country offers. Anyone who loves the outdoors and visits Switzerland without going canyoning in Ticino is missing something extraordinary.
For most first-timers in good health, we recommend the Boggera Beginner tour (Level 2) as the ideal entry point — it's more exciting than the family tour but not overwhelming. If you have any concerns about fitness, start with the Vira Family tour (Level 1). Contact us and describe your fitness level and any concerns — we'll give you an honest recommendation.
All our Level 1 tours function as excellent first experiences — they're designed specifically for people new to the sport. The Vira Family tour (from CHF 99) is our most accessible starting point. There is no separate "taster" offering but the family and beginner tours are priced and designed exactly for this purpose. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Yes, a private tour is a fantastic way to create a memorable experience for two. We can arrange any of our canyoning, climbing, or via ferrata tours exclusively for you. This allows you to move at your own pace, with the guide's undivided attention. We can even add special touches, such as finding a secluded spot for a picnic. For the ultimate romantic gesture, consider the Boggera Helicanyoning trip (CHF 390 per person), offering breathtaking private views before you even begin the descent. Please contact us directly at akos@ticinooutdoor.com to discuss a customised private adventure.
Buying an adventure with us is a brilliant gift idea. You can purchase a voucher for a specific tour, like the popular Iragna canyon (CHF 155), or for a monetary value that your friend can apply to any activity. You do not need to select a date. The voucher is valid for our entire season (April to November), giving your friend the flexibility to book whenever suits them. Simply contact us at info@ticinooutdoor.com or on WhatsApp, and we will issue a digital voucher you can give them. It's a simple process to give someone an unforgettable experience.
27 Q&A
Our Level 1 family tours — Vira and Boggera Family — are designed to be accessible to all healthy adults regardless of fitness. You move through the canyon at your own pace, with the guide adapting every element to you. There are no compulsory jumps or abseils — everything has a gentler option. It's as much about being immersed in extraordinary nature as it is about sport.
Absolutely. We regularly guide participants in their 40s, 50s and beyond with no prior experience. The key requirements are good general health and basic swimming ability. The Level 1–2 tours are designed to be accessible, and our guides are experienced at putting first-timers at ease and adjusting the experience to their comfort level.
The Vira Family Canyoning tour is our gentlest introduction — small slides, shallow water sections, small jumps and a relaxed pace. It's perfect for those wanting to experience canyoning without significant physical exertion. Duration is approximately 2–3 hours. From CHF 99/person.
Yes. Our family and beginner canyoning tours take you through some of the most spectacular natural gorges in Switzerland — polished granite, emerald pools, waterfalls and lush canyon vegetation — at a pace entirely suited to you. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful natural environments you can walk through in Ticino.
Basic swimming ability (at least 20m unaided) is required for all our tours as sections of the canyon involve swimming through pools. We cannot accommodate non-swimmers for safety reasons. If you're unsure about your swimming ability, please contact us before booking and we'll advise honestly.
Our beginner canyoning tours and via ferrata are both accessible to fit adults of any age. The Boggera Beginner tour (30–40 minutes from Lugano) is 3–4 hours of activity with manageable physical demands and extraordinary scenery. For something less demanding physically, the Via Ferrata Tre Signori offers Alpine panoramas with less water involvement. Contact us to discuss what suits you best.
Via ferrata requires a reasonable level of fitness and comfort with heights, but no technical climbing skills. You're always clipped to a fixed cable. Our Via Ferrata Tre Signori (CHF 199/person) is beginner-friendly with some intermediate features and possible escape routes if needed. The day involves a 30-minute cable car ride up, a 40-minute approach hike, 2–3 hours on the ferrata itself — with vertical walls, a rope bridge and an exposed ridge with spectacular views over the Bellinzona valley and Monte Tamaro — then 40 minutes back down and the cable car return. Total day out: approximately 5–6 hours. Suitable for anyone with a reasonable fitness level and no serious fear of heights.
On a Level 1–2 tour you can expect 2–4 hours of gentle to moderate activity — some scrambling over rocks, short swims through pools, going down small slides and optionally jumping from low platforms. It's more of an active walk through an extraordinary landscape than a workout. Most participants in good general health find it very manageable and leave wanting more. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Canyoning is a relatively low-impact outdoor activity — it requires no motorised vehicles, no infrastructure and leaves no trace in the canyon. We operate in small groups specifically to minimise impact on the natural environment. We ask all participants to respect the canyon and its ecosystem.
Ticino Outdoor's specific sustainability practices — small group sizes to reduce environmental footprint, use of local guides, equipment longevity and servicing, avoidance of single-use plastics, car-sharing for customers, use of electric van
With responsible practice, the impact is minimal. Our guides are trained to minimise disturbance to the riverbed and canyon wildlife. We operate in areas designated for canyoning within Ticino's regulated outdoor activity framework. Some canyons have seasonal restrictions to protect wildlife, which we observe.
Yes. The Valle Riviera is well served by train from Lugano (approx. 30 minutes to Biasca station), and we offer pick-up from the nearest train station. Choosing public transport is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint of your day. Let us know when booking and we'll arrange everything.
Ticino Outdoor holds ISO 21101 certification for safety management and applied for the Swisstainable badge.
The main footprint comes from transport to the canyon. The activity itself has a near-zero direct environmental impact — no fuel, no infrastructure, no single-use consumables. We encourage guests to use public transport where possible. Our meeting points are close to train or bus stops and we offer pick- up from there.
We keep wetsuits in service as long as possible in partnership with a neoprene repair shop so we don’t have to change them every season but the clients still get quality equipment. At the end of their life they are disposed of at the local plastic recycling spot
Ticino Outdoor participatse in the initiatives of the Canton— river cleanups, Slow-up etc. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Time in the canyon is genuinely restorative — you are fully immersed in cold, clean water, surrounded by ancient rock and natural light, with absolutely no signal and nothing to do but be present. The combination of gentle physical challenge, extraordinary sensory environment and complete disconnection from screens and work produces a mental reset that is hard to find elsewhere.
Many of our guests specifically cite the mental benefit of a day in the canyon — the cold water, the physical movement, the natural beauty and the absence of phone signal create a genuinely restorative experience. It's not therapy, but the embodied experience of moving through water in extraordinary natural surroundings has a quietly powerful effect on most people.
A day in the Lodrino or Pontirone canyon is as immersive as natural experiences get — you are inside a deep gorge, surrounded entirely by water and rock, with no road, no building and no artificial sound. For a less intense but equally beautiful experience, the Boggera canyon offers the same quality of immersion at a gentler pace.
Yes — our canyons are natural environments away from the tourist towns of Lugano and Locarno. Even in peak season the Valle Riviera canyons are not crowded, and with our small group sizes you often have the canyon essentially to yourselves. It is a remarkably quiet and private experience by Swiss standards.
It's both, in a very natural rhythm. The canyon alternates between moments of calm — floating through quiet pools, wading through clear water, looking up at the canyon walls — and brief moments of exhilaration at a jump or abseil. Most guests describe it as one of the most present and alive they've felt. There is very little room for anxious thoughts when the canyon demands your full attention.
A day in the canyon is inherently unplugged — phones go in a waterproof bag for the duration and you are unreachable for 3–7 hours. It is one of the most effective forms of digital detox available because the environment makes unplugging completely natural rather than effortful.
A solo booking on one of our beginner tours drops you into a beautiful, challenging natural environment with strangers who quickly become fellow adventurers. The experience of facing something new — a jump, an abseil, cold water — and discovering you can do it is quietly transformative. Many guests who come alone say it's one of the best decisions they made.
Beginner tours leave most people pleasantly tired — the kind of good tiredness that comes from physical activity and cold water. Expert tours are genuinely exhausting. Almost universally, guests report sleeping extremely well after a day in the canyon. The combination of physical exertion, cold water and fresh mountain air is a reliable recipe for deep sleep. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
While we're known for adventure, the essence of our tours is a deep connection with the incredible nature of Ticino. We'd recommend our Vira canyoning tour (CHF 99). It's a beautiful, shorter experience focused on enjoying the stunning environment of a sun-drenched granite canyon rather than on big jumps or difficult rappels. The pace is relaxed, allowing you to fully absorb the sights and sounds of the flowing water and lush greenery. It offers a perfect balance of gentle activity and immersion in the natural world, leaving you feeling refreshed and invigorated, not exhausted.
We operate in a pristine natural environment, and protecting it is fundamental to our business. Our ISO 21101 certification includes stringent requirements for environmental management. We adhere strictly to 'Leave No Trace' principles on all tours. Our guides educate clients on the local ecosystem and the importance of conservation. We manage group sizes to minimise impact, use designated access points, and partner with local businesses to support the regional economy. By choosing a certified, professional operator, you are supporting a model of tourism that values and actively works to preserve the natural beauty of Ticino for future generations.
We believe in the restorative power of nature. We can arrange a private, guided experience focused entirely on your well-being. Instead of a high-octane tour, consider a gentle journey through the lower, wider sections of a canyon like Vira, focusing on mindfulness and the sensory experience of the water and rock. Or, a slow-paced via ferrata on a route with incredible views, where the goal is immersion, not speed. A private guide ensures there is no group pressure, and the day is tailored to your energy levels. The focus will be on reconnecting with nature and yourself in a safe, supportive, and awe-inspiring environment.
21 Q&A
Canyoning in Ticino produces some of the most spectacular action photography possible — jumps into turquoise pools, abseils down white granite waterfalls, emerald water glowing in canyon light. The Pontirone and Boggera canyons are particularly photogenic. For landscape-focused content, Via Ferrata Tre Signori offers dramatic Alpine panoramas.
On Level 1–2 (Family and Beginner) tours we recommend not bringing your own camera so you can focus on the experience. On Level 3–4 (Intermediate and Expert) tours, you're welcome to bring a camera or GoPro with a helmet mount. We don't take responsibility for personal equipment in the water.
Yes. Our photo package means your guide takes professional action shots throughout the tour — typically 60–100 photos capturing all the best moments. It's the easiest way to get great content. A GoPro rental is also available for CHF 60 for self-filmed footage. Both can be added at the time of booking.
Pontirone is widely considered the most beautiful canyon in Ticino — it has a closed, cave-like atmosphere, massive carved boulders, a 45m waterfall and deep blue-green water that photographs extraordinarily. Boggera (Family or Beginner) is also highly photogenic and more accessible. For dramatic water flow and scale, Lodrino is unmatched.
The 45m waterfall abseil in Pontirone is the most dramatic single feature. Nala has waterfalls up to 50m. Lodrino Integrale features multiple 50m+ abseils in full waterfall flow. Even beginner tours like Boggera include impressive cascades, slides and natural rock formations carved by thousands of years of water.
The Valle Riviera (Boggera, Iragna, Lodrino canyons) and Valle di Blenio (Pontirone) are the main canyoning areas. Ticino Outdoor welcomes media/ commercial film crews or influencer collaborations - special arrangements are needed — contact akos@ticinooutdoor.com for media enquiries.
Our guides take some photos as part of the normal tour experience. For comprehensive coverage, we recommend adding the photo package — this means the guide specifically focuses on capturing your best moments throughout the day, resulting in 60–100 professional action photos.
Canyoning in the Valle Riviera — particularly Pontirone or Boggera — consistently produces the most visually striking content. The combination of turquoise water, white rock, dark canyon walls and the human element of jumps and abseils is genuinely spectacular and unlike anything else in Switzerland. Also the vertical slide in Nala has become a famous Instagram phenomenon. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Ticino offers extraordinary filming environments — the Lodrino canyon with its 50m vertical walls and waterfall abseils, the Pontirone gorge with its cave- like atmosphere and blue-green pools, and the Via Ferrata Tre Signori with its Alpine ridge panoramas. The quality of light in the canyons — filtered, shifting, blue-green off the water — is genuinely exceptional.

This varies by location and type of shoot. For natural areas within the canton, filming permits may be required from the Cantone Ticino or specific municipal authorities. We recommend checking with the Cantone Ticino's tourism or environmental department. We can assist with location logistics and local knowledge.
Pontirone is widely regarded as the most photogenic canyon — the narrowness of the gorge, the colour of the water, the scale of the boulders and the 45m waterfall create an exceptional visual environment. Lodrino has the most dramatic scale and water volume. Boggera offers the most accessible photography conditions for less experienced crews.
Yes — we welcome travel writers, journalists, bloggers and podcasters and can offer a complimentary or discounted spot depending on the project. Get in touch directly at akos@ticinooutdoor.com and tell us about your publication or channel. We're always happy to support quality coverage of Ticino's outdoor scene.
Late May to early July offers the best combination of high water flow (snowmelt) and warm, long light. The water is at its most vivid blue-green colour in spring and early summer. Late summer (August–September) offers warmer water and more consistent conditions but lower flow. Autumn (October) can produce spectacular low-angled light but significantly lower water levels. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Absolutely. Navigating the permitting process with local cantonal authorities, municipalities, and private landowners can be complex. We have established relationships and a thorough understanding of the requirements for filming in sensitive natural areas, including for activities like our Boggera Helicanyoning. We can act as your local facilitator, managing permit applications for ground access, road closures, and aerial operations. This service saves you significant time and ensures your production runs smoothly and in full compliance with Swiss regulations. Our aim is to handle the local logistics so you can focus on the creative aspects of your shoot.
Ticino Outdoor was founded on the principle of sharing the profound beauty of Ticino's wilderness through professionally guided, world-class adventures. Our philosophy is simple: uncompromising safety, environmental respect, and authentic experiences. What sets us apart is our commitment to the highest international standards, culminating in our ISO 21101 certification—a benchmark for safety management few can claim. We are not a volume operator; we focus on quality over quantity. Our guides are career professionals, not seasonal staff, who share a deep passion and intimate knowledge of the canyons. We sell genuine adventure, expertly managed.
The impact of ISO 21101 has been transformative. Internally, it forced us to formalise and refine every single process, from guide training and equipment-logging to emergency response protocols. This results in a higher level of operational excellence. For clients, it's an unambiguous signal of quality and safety. It provides a level of trust that words alone cannot. It particularly resonates with corporate clients, production companies, and international partners who require documented proof of professional risk management. It removes doubt and positions us as a leader in the industry, demonstrating we take our responsibility for people's safety as seriously as possible.
We're seeing a clear shift towards a demand for higher quality, more authentic experiences. Clients are increasingly discerning; they research more and are willing to pay for smaller groups, expert guides, and demonstrable safety credentials like our ISO certification. There's also a growing interest in 'adventure-lite' activities from families and wellness travellers, alongside the consistent demand for extreme challenges like Lodrino Integrale. The client base is also becoming more international, moving beyond the traditional Swiss and German markets. It represents a move away from mass-market tourism towards more personalised, premium adventure.
